Break the Bank

I'm always trying to push the envelope for what is possible with designs and what was possible with our platform. This design for Break the Bank came about while searching for assets. I found a really great piece of stock footage of a bank vault opening that was the perfect length and composition for this theme. This was one of the many instances where I took an idea that was intended to be more simple, but able to drive it over the top with animation. The team always perfers to use animation when possible because it immediately conveys a greater sense of value, and stands out as eye-catching on a carousel or page full of otherwise static graphics. The limits of our platform at the time didn't allow us use video file types so I had to narrow the color depth of the design in order to build everything into animated GIFs. If I were to remake something like this today, I would use animated WebPs, or a video format if the platform accomodated it.
